All-Electric Audi Q5 e-tron Breaks Cover At The Auto Guangzhou Motor Show 2021

While we are still waiting for the launch of facelifted Q5 on November 23, Audi has revealed its all-electric version at the Auto Guangzhou 2021 motor show in China. Dubbed as the Audi Q5 e-tron, it will be available only for Chinese customers.

The all-new Audi Q5 e-Tron electric is based on VW Group’s MEB platform that also underpins the Volkswagen ID 6 electric SUV. It wouldn't be wrong if the Q5 e-Tron is to be considered as a luxurious version of the VW ID.6. Developed and built by the SAIC Volkswagen joint venture, the Q5 e-tron is 4,876mm long, 1,860mm wide, 1,675mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,965mm wheelbase. These figures are exactly the same as its VW cousin.

Design-wise, the new Q5 e-Tron looks like a larger Q4 e-Tron, featuring a closed-off single-frame grille up front, flanked by sharp LED headlights. The other notable styling cues include energetic character lines, dual-tone alloys, and sleeker LED taillamps along with a width spanning lightbar at the rear. The interior layout of the car is also identical to the Q4 e-Tron.

Audi has offered the Q5 e-Tron in both 6-and 7-seater configurations. The 6-seater model features captain’s chairs in the second row.

Audi will offer the Q5 e-tron in three variants in China. The 35 entry-level model features a 180PS rear-mounted motor powered by a 55kWh battery pack. The mid-spec 40 variant, on the other hand, has a single- rear-wheel-drive 204PS motor, and a larger 83.4 kWh battery. The range-topping 50, meanwhile, uses the same battery but features a dual-motor (one on each axle), delivering 302PS of maximum grunt. It is claimed to complete a century sprint in just 6.7sec and offers an NEDC range of 560km on the RWD model and 520km on the AWD variant.

In the other news, the German automaker is gearing up to introduce the Q6 e-Tron in the near future that will be underpinned on a more sophisticated PPE platform. Besides, Audi India is expected to launch the Q4 e-tron by late 2022.
