2021 Yamaha R15 V4.0 – What's New?

For starters, the Yamaha R15 has received a major overhaul in terms of styling. It gets a more aerodynamic front fascia with a Bi-functional LED headlamp flanked by LED DRLs that seems inspired by its elder sibling Yamaha YZF-R7. The side fairing of the bike has also been completely revamped and so has the fuel tank of the bike, which can now accommodate more fuel. The other notable changes include new rear quarter panels and a new heat shield for the exhaust system. Sadly, Yamaha hasn’t changed the rear section of the bike.

In terms of features, the Yamaha R15 receives two ride modes (Street and Track), a traction control system, and even an optional quickshifter for a more agile riding experience. There's also a side stand engine cut-off switch, a lap timer, and a new fully digital instrument console that comes with the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect feature. This allows customers to pair their smartphone to the instrument cluster of the motorcycle via Bluetooth and get call & SMS alerts, mobile battery status, and more details on the display.

Using Yamaha's dedicated mobile app, one can also access connected features such as the last parked location, revv dashboard, battery level & engine oil replacement alert, maintenance recommendation, and malfunction notifications, etc. It also gets an interesting feature to check the ranking of your mileage and distance against global Yamaha riders.

Talking about the hardware, Yamaha has finally equipped the R15 with USD front forks, finished in a golden scheme. While the standard model continues to get the same box-type unit, the all-new R15M track-focused variant sports a lighter aluminum swingarm that will help it tip in quicker. Besides, the R15M also receives Bybre brake calipers.

Yamaha R15 V4.0 – Powertrain

Powering the new Yamaha R15 V4.0 is the same 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor as the outgoing motor that has been detuned to develop 18.35PS, 0.25PS less than the R15 V3.

Rivals

The Yamaha YZF R15 V4 has no direct competition in the Indian market, however, the KTM RC 125 and Bajaj Pulsar RC 200 can be seen as its closest alternatives.
