Volkswagen Taigun Likely To Be Priced From Rs 10 Lakh To Rs 17 Lakh

Select Volkswagen dealers have already commenced bookings for the upcoming Taigun compact SUV before its official announcement. Now, some VW dealerships are claiming that the car would be priced between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price range, the VW Taigun will beat the top-spec variants of Hyundai Creta (Rs 9.99-17.70 lakh), and Kia Seltos (Rs 9.95-17.65 lakh) by a huge margin.

While the launch date of the Volkswagen Taigun is yet to be revealed, it is likely to arrive in mid-2021 (possibly in August month). For those who aren't aware, it will be the first VW product to be based on the heavily localized MQB AO IN platform. The same platform will also underpin its upcoming sibling rival, the Skoda Kushaq, which is supposed to be launched in June 2021. However, the VW Taigun is expected to be positioned as a more premium offering than the Kushaq SUV with several segment-first features like lane assist system, adaptive cruise control, park assist and park pilot, etc.

Besides, the German SUV will also get premium features like a 10.1-inch Play touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, connected car technology with in-car WIFI via e-SIM-based internet access, fully digital instrument cluster, auto climate control with touch-based control panel, ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, six airbags, ISOFIX anchorages for child seats, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control, parking sensors with a rear-view camera, and many more.

Volkswagen Taigun bookings

Volkswagen will offer the Taigun with two turbocharged petrol engine options – a 1.0-liter TSI (115PS/175Nm) and a 1.5-liter TSI EVO (150PS/250Nm). While the former will be available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, the latter will get the options of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic. Besides, the more powerful engine will also get an idle start/stop and Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) for improved fuel efficiency.

The ACT is a cylinder deactivation technology that shuts two of four cylinders of the engine in low load condition, thus improves engine efficiency, decreases fuel consumption & associated emissions.
