Volkswagen Taigun Finally Has A Launch Date

After commencing its series production last week, Volkswagen has now announced that its much-anticipated Taigun SUV will go on sale on September 23, 2021. Its pre-bookings are already underway for a token amount of Rs 25,000. Deliveries of the SUV are likely to begin from the day of launch.

Based on the MQB A0-IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq, the Taigun will be Volkswagen’s first made-in-India SUV under its India 2.0 business plan. Both the sibling SUVs also share the features as well as powertrain options. However, it is their design that separates them from each other. In fact, the Taigun's styling seems inspired by the Tiguan and T-Roc SUVs, featuring notable elements like chrome finished twin-slat horizontal front grille, LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, dual-tone bumper with prominent chrome touch, 17-inch alloy wheels, and C-shaped LED taillamps with a width-spanning LED light bar.

Inside, the VW Taigun features a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, connected car technology, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, auto AC with touch-based control panel, rear AC vents, an electric sunroof, wireless charging, height-adjustable driver's seat, cruise control, ambient lighting, front & rear central armrest, etc. The safety kit includes up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors with a camera.

Similar to the Skoda Kushaq, the Volkswagen Taigun will also be a petrol-only model, powered by either a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol (115PS/178Nm) or a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol unit (150PS/250Nm) with cylinder deactivation technology. Both engines will get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. Besides, the former engine will also get an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the latter will come with a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch automatic) option.

Expect Volkswagen to price the Taigun between Rs 10.5 lakh to Rs 17.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross, Skoda, and the upcoming MG Astor and 5-seater variants of the Mahindra XUV700
