Triumph Scrambler 400 XC Launched In India

Triumph Motorcycles has launched the Scrambler 400 XC priced at Rs 2.94 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Triumph’s most expensive bike based on the 400cc platform, commanding a premium of Rs 26,540 over the Scrambler 400X. Positioned above the Scrambler 400X, the XC is a more off-road-focused version to better suit adventure seekers and trail rides.

Triumph Scrambler 400 XC – What’s New?

Being an off-road-centric bike, the Triumph Scrambler 400XC gets cross-spoke wheels with tubeless tyres, offering the ruggedness needed for trails while maintaining the convenience of easy puncture repair. However, the size remains the same as the 400X, with a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear. Additionally, it also features a body-painted high-mounted front beak fender that protects against mud splashes, a small windscreen for added wind deflection, and adjustable clutch & brake levers allowing riders to tune the controls for better comfort & reach. There’s also the new aluminium sump guard and an engine guard for added protection against off-road impacts.

With all these additions, the bike’s curb weight has increased by 5kg compared to the 400X. It is now rated at 190kg.

Triumph has offered it in three colour options — Racing Yellow, Storm Grey and Vanilla White.

Other Features

Similar to the 400X, the bike features all-LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument console, a USB charging port, switchable traction control, off-road ABS mode, and ride-by-wire throttle.

What Powers The Scrambler 400 XC?

Powering the Scrambler 400 XC is the same 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that also powers the Scrambler 400 X and Speed 400. It produces 40PS of max power at 8,000 rpm and 37.5Nm at 6500 rpm. It comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.

Author’s Take

The Triumph Scrambler 400 XC smartly fills the gap for riders seeking an affordable yet purpose-built off-roader in the sub-3 lakh range. While it shares its core engine and chassis with the Scrambler 400 X, the XC variant’s off-road enhancements—like cross-spoke wheels, protective bodywork, and adjustable levers—add genuine trail-readiness without going overboard. Yes, it’s Rs 26,540 pricier than the 400X, but for that premium, you get a more adventure-capable machine that looks the part and backs it up with useful upgrades. For those who enjoy occasional dirt rides without compromising on daily usability, the Scrambler 400 XC strikes a sweet balance.
