Toyota Introduced 14-Seater Hiace In India, Prices Will Start From Rs 55 Lakh

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has introduced the fifth-generation Hiace in India that has been on sale globally since 2004. It is a 14-seater light commercial van that will hit the Indian roads via the CBU route and will be priced at Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom).

The brand will sell the Hiace in limited numbers, and the first batch of 50 cars have already arrived in India.

Toyota Hiace – Design & Features

The design of this new Toyota van is pretty practical and straightforward in its way. It will be available in a single GL trim that comes equipped with features such as halogen headlamps, a 2-DIN audio system with CD, Aux, and USB support, AC vents for each row, power sliding rear doors, fabric seats, power windows, power steering, etc. On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear defogger, and collapsible steering column. Though it doesn't get any advanced features like modern vans, it offers a lot of practicality. It comes with semi-reclining seats and the last row can be folded to expand the boot space. Besides, there are a plethora of well-adapted storage spaces around the cabin.

While it’s not official, but the Hiace is likely to be available only in white and silver colour options.

Toyota Hiace – Engine & Gearbox

The India-spec Toyota Hiace will draw its power from Fortuner-sourced 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. However, it has been detuned to an output of 151PS & 300Nm instead of 204PS & up to 500Nm in the full-sized SUV. For transmission duties, the Hiace will come paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

A glimpse from Toyota Hiace's history

The Toyota Hiace (HiAce) was first launched in October 1967 as a cab over the pick-up, delivery van, and a stretched commuter vehicle. Currently, in some of the international markets, Toyota sells the 6th generation version of Hiace, which was revealed in early 2019. It is available in both standard and long roof versions with lengths of 5,265 mm and 5,915mm respectively. With such big dimensions, the 6th gen Hiace can accommodate 17 passengers. Power will be provided by either 3.5-litre V6 petrol or a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a choice between a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
