Toyota Hyryder/Maruti YFG To Get All-Wheel-Drivetrain (AWD); Engine Details Revealed

  • Both Creta-rivaling SUVs will get a 1.5-liter gasoline mill with mild-hybrid and self-charging strong-hybrid technologies.
  • The strong-hybrid version will be more potent for apparent reasons and will come mated to an e-CVT transmission.
  • The mild-hybrid version will get both FWD and AWD options.

Yesterday, we had a sneak peek at the upcoming Toyota Hyryder/Maruti YFG interior for the first time. And now, we got to know that the forthcoming SUVs will get the segment’s first all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) option.

Toyota Hyryder/Maruti YFG – Powertain Options

As revealed in our previous stories, the Toyota Hyryder will get a 1.5-liter petrol engine, both with mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid technology options. And now, reports are suggesting that its mild-hybrid engine will get the first-in-segment all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, whereas the strong hybrid powertrain will only propel the front wheels of the SUV. Earlier, Renault Duster was available with an all-wheel drivetrain option. However, its AWD version was discontinued during the BS6 transition.

Speaking of the power figures and transmission options, the Toyota Hyryder’s mild-hybrid version, similar to the recently updated Ertiga and XL6, will produce around 103PS of peak power and will come mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. On the other hand, its strong-hybrid mill will offer a maximum grunt of 116PS and will come mated to an e-CVT for a smoother driving experience. Expect Maruti Suzuki to also offer the YFG SUV (codenamed) with the same powertrain options as its Toyota equivalent.
