Time To Say Goodbye To The Mahindra XUV500

Mahindra has pulled the plug on the decade-old XUV500 in India due to the arrival of its spiritual successor, the XUV700. The SUV was priced from Rs 15.56 lakh to Rs 20.07 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) before facing the axe.

Launched in 2011, the Mahindra XUV500 was a well-loaded 7-seater SUV in its segment. It received two mid-life updates in its decade-old run, consecutively in 2015 and 2018. It packed a host of premium features, including projector headlamps, dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Mahindra Blue Sense connect support, plush tan leather upholstery, a 6-way adjustable driver seat, a single-pane sunroof, cruise control, up to six airbags, electronic stability program, rear parking sensors with camera, and much more.

Powering the XUV500 was a 2.2-litre BS6 diesel engine (155PS/360Nm), coupled with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Its top-end W11 diesel variant was also offered with an AWD (all-wheel drivetrain) option. In the BS4 era, the SUV was also available with a 2.2-litre turbo-petrol engine belting out 140PS and 320Nm. To know our impressions about the XUV500, check our detailed review here.

There is no doubt that the XUV500 was an extremely popular offering, but its replacement- the XUV700, is more premium and sturdier than its descendant on all fronts. Available in both 5-and 7-seat layouts, the XUV700 is priced between Rs 12.5 lakh to Rs 22.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Thanks to its extensive variant options, aggressive pricing and feature-loaded cabin, the XUV700 has already garnered over 65,000 bookings so far. Deliveries of its petrol-powered variants have already been started across the nation, while the diesel trims will be delivered from the last week of November.
