Tata Harrier, Safari To Get This New ADAS Safety Feature Soon

Tata Motors has recently launched the facelifted Harrier and Safari, introducing many new features, including the updated ADAS suite with the much-awaited dynamic cruise control. However, both SUVs still lack the Lane Keep Assist function. But fret not, Tata has confirmed that this feature will be rolled out soon, and the existing facelifted Harrier and Safari customers will get this active safety tech via an OTA update.

What is Lane Keep Assist?

what is lane keep assist
  • The Lane Keep Assist is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that aids the driver in maintaining the vehicle within its lane on the road.
  • It uses a video camera to detect the marked lane ahead of the vehicle and monitor the vehicle’s position relative to lane markings.
  • If the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane without giving a turn signal, the system intervenes and provides steering input or other corrective measures to keep the vehicle safely within the lane. Therefore, it enhances the driver’s safety and reduces the chances of unintentional lane departure.

Why Was This Feature Missed Earlier?

According to Tata Motors, the steering intervention wasn’t possible earlier because the SUVs had a hydraulic power steering setup. However, with the facelift updates, both SUVs now have an electronic power steering system.

As per the reports, the company is currently fine-tuning its calibration and will roll out this new feature shortly. The inclusion of lane-keep assist will further enhance the safety quotient of the Harrier and Safari duo. For those who aren’t aware, these SUVs have already achieved 5-star Global NCAP crash test safety ratings for both adult and child occupant protection, setting records for the highest test scores for any vehicle tested under its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign.
