Tata Altroz XZ Variant Losses Out Some Features; CNG Powertrain Is In Works

In a surprising move, Tata Motors has removed some features from its second-to-top XZ variant of the Altroz premium hatchback. For starters, the 7-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster has been dropped now for a 4-inch LCD instrument cluster, and so it will not prompt the turn-by-turn navigation on the MID. While it will continue to come with a flat-bottom multi-purpose steering wheel, it will no longer get the leather wrapping and silver accent for a premium appeal.

Despite these features removal, the Altroz XZ is still quite a loaded variant that comes with notable equipment like automatic projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, ambient lighting, 3D embossed fabric upholstery, a 7-inch floating infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker Harman sound system, What3Words-based navigation assist, multiple driving modes, idle start-stop function for the petrol engine, auto climate control with rear AC vents, front & rear central armrest, height-adjustable driver's seat, cruise control, smart keyless entry with push-button start, rain-sensing front wipers, and much more.

Safety is taken care of by dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear camera with dynamic guidelines, ISOFIX child seat mounts, corner stability control, front seat belt with load limiter, engine immobiliser, impact sensing auto door unlock, perimetric alarm system, rear wiper & washer, rear defogger, smart rear wiper with a wash, height-adjustable front seatbelts, etc.

Currently, the Tata Altroz is available with three engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (86PS/113Nm), a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (110PS/140Nm), and a 1.5-litre diesel (90PS/200Nm), paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. With the skyrocketing fuel prices, the Indian automaker is gearing up to introduce its naturally aspirated unit with a more economical & environment-friendly factory-fitted CNG kit in the near future. Recently, it has been spotted with an emission testing kit.

With CNG, the power figures of the hatchback will drop significantly while the fuel efficiency is expected to be around 30 km/kg.

The Altroz CNG could cost Rs 50,000 more than its corresponding petrol-powered variants. Currently, the Tata Altroz is priced between Rs 5.84 lakh and Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom) and rivals the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza and the Volkswagen Polo.
