Suzuki V-Strom 650XT BS6 Launched, Priced At Rs 8.84 lakh

After a long wait, Suzuki Motorcycles India has launched the BS6-compliant version of V-Strom 650 XT in the country at Rs 8,84,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Adventure tourer continues to be powered by the same 645cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine, delivering a maximum output of 70.7PS and 62Nm. In comparison to the BS4 model, the updated engine produces 0.3PS and 0.3Nm less than the BS4 model.

Besides upgrading the engine to the newer emission norms, no other major changes have been made. The bike retains its modern-retro design, inspired by the DR-Z and DR-BIG. The significant bits of its design/styling includes a vertically stacked halogen headlamp, LED taillamps, 3-way adjustable windshield, semi-digital instrument cluster, slim and easy to maneuver bodyworks with a slimmer 20L fuel tank, knuckle covers, engine cowling, wire-spoke wheels (19-inch/17-inch), the same level of passenger seat & rear carrier, and a down type exhaust system, etc.

The underpinnings of the BS6 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT is similar to the older model. It emphasizes a lightweight & rigid aluminum twin-spar frame suspended on a telescopic fork with a stroke of 150mm and a monoshock equipped with a spring preload adjuster knob on the right side of the frame (adjustments can be done without any tools). Braking duties are handled by the twin disc brakes of 310mm at the front with 2pod pin-sliding calipers and a 260mm single disk at the rear with a single pod pin-sliding caliper. To ensure its go-anywhere capabilities, the BS6 V-Strom retains features like Dual-Channel ABS, switchable 2-level/three-mode traction control & low RPM assist. 

With the BS6 update, Suzuki hasn't even introduced new colors for the bike. It will be available in the same yellow and white schemes as before.  

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Koichiro Hirao, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. said- 

“V-Strom has made its own following in India. The ultimate adventure tourer has proved its mettle in the highway touring capabilities while exploring different terrains. It is truly a masterpiece with the ultimate balance provided by the natural riding position, comfortable seat and the flexible engine character. This is our first BS6 compliant big bike and we are confident that this cleaner and greener motorcycle will continue to win people’s hearts with its performance and maneuverability as it hit the Indian roads”.

Author's Take

The BS6 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT is Rs 1,37,423 pricier than its BS4 iteration, which is a huge difference, albeit nothing much has been changed compared to the predecessor. BS6 Kawasaki Versus 650, the V-Strom's main competitor, is about Rs 2 lakh cheaper than it, which is definitely a concern for Suzuki, and the BS6 V-Strom will certainly have to bear the brunt.
