Suzuki eSKY Revealed With 310km Range; Could Be Maruti’s Compact EV For India

Suzuki has pulled the wraps off its new compact electric car (Kei car) in Japan called “eSKY”. It is an urban-centric, entry-level born EV that is just 3,395mm long, making it even smaller than the India-spec Alto K10. It is expected to be launched next year in European markets.

Let’s get into the details to know the new Suzuki eSKY EV in a better way: –

What Powers the Suzuki eSKY?

Powering the Suzuki eSKY is a single electric motor, fed by 26kWh a battery pack, offering a claimed range of 310km on a single charge. While the motor specifications haven’t been revealed yet, it is expected to be around 60-70 PS.

Suzuki eSKY: Design and Dimensions

Being a kei car, the eSKY boasts bold yet tall & upright proportions, which makes it stand out. However, its narrow track gives it a compact footprint. For reference, its concept model, which was displayed last year at the Tokyo Motor Show, measured 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width and 1,625mm in height.

Design-wise, it looks quirky from the front, featuring a nearly flat fascia with a closed-off, aerodynamic stance and smoked-finished projector headlamps with integrated C-shaped DRLs. A front camera can also be seen on the black trim connecting the headlamps. Furthermore, the bumper features front parking sensors and subtle air intakes integrated into a rectangular trim lower down, giving the EV a funky character.

The side profile looks clean with large door panels, traditional pull-type door handles, door-mounted wing mirrors, black-finished 14-inch four-spoke alloy wheels and a straight roof line with black treatment for a floating effect.

At the back, the eSKY features vertically stacked wraparound tail-lamps with C-shaped elements and reflectors on the bumper. Overall, the design seems clean and uncluttered, staying true to the original concept.

Interior and Features

Inside, the EV features a minimalist design theme, with the most prominent element being the large integrated display panel, which combines the infotainment system with the driver’s instrument cluster. The dashboard has an upright and layered layout, with a silver-coloured trim running across its width. The AC control panels are neatly integrated into the dashboard, alongside a column-mounted gear selector, freeing up space between the front seats.

Will Maruti Suzuki Bring eSKY To India?

Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a compact, entry-level EV for the Indian market by 2028. Codenamed Y2V, the Suzuki eSKY could well fit this space, competing against the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV. However, thorough design tweaks are expected for its India-bound version.
