Skoda Kushaq To Be Launched By The End of June 2021

After launching the 4th-gen Octavia sedan, Czech carmaker Skoda is set to bring its next offering, the Kushaq, by the end of June 2021. Even the brand has already started its series production at its Chakan-based manufacturing facility. Based on the Vision IN concept, it will be a highly localized product (over 95% of localization) and will mark the debut of Volkswagen Group's India 2.0 program.

The Skoda Kushaq is underpinned by VW Group’s heavily localized MQB-A0-IN platform, which it will also share with the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun and the successor models of Skoda Rapid and VW Vento. It will be offered with the choice of two turbo-petrol engines – a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder TSI, and a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder TSI. While the former is good in producing a maximum output of 115PS/175Nm, the latter produces 150PS/250Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual (standard), a 6-speed torque converter automatic (with the 1.0-liter unit), and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (with the 1.5-liter unit).

The SUV will be equipped with notable features like VW Group's latest 10-inch touchscreen Play infotainment system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay smartphone integration support, connected car technology via SIM-based internet access along with in-car Wi-Fi, ambient lighting, a 6-speaker sound system, two-spoke steering wheel, auto climate control with touch-based control panel, ventilated seats, cruise control, wireless charging, electric sunroof, all-LED lighting system, and more. It will be offered in 5 exterior color options – Honey Orange, Tornado Red, Brilliant Silver, Carbon Steel, and Candy White.

As for size, the new Kushaq is 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide, and 1,612mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. It offers a boot space of 385-liters, which can be further increased by folding the second row of seats.

Expect the Kushaq to be priced between Rs 9.5 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor
