All-New Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Engine & Gearbox

The 2021 Celerio is powered by a new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder DualJet Dual-VVT Dual-Injector petrol engine (67PS/89Nm) that replaces the older 63PS 1.0-litre unit. It gets a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Coupled with a first-in-segment idle start/stop system, the new Celerio is claimed to be India's most frugal car of the country, challenging a fuel economy of up to 26.68 kmpl.

Maruti will introduce the CNG powertrain in the near future.

2021 All-New Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Design & Features

The upgraded Celerio features an all-new design both outside and inside. Compared to the outgoing model, the new Celerio looks quite curvier, dropping its boxy appearance. It gets a small oval-shaped grille upfront with large droplet-shaped halogen headlamps and a chrome strip running across the front grille. Its bumper has also been redesigned and now features a prominent blacked-out housing for the small air dam and round fog lamps.

From the side, the new hatch looks quite clean, thanks to its monotonous character lines. It rides on 15-inches blacked-out alloy wheels. At the back, it gets tear-shaped tail lamps, a sculpted boot, and a restyled bumper with two horizontally stacked reflector strips on each side.

Inside, the 2021 Celerio gets a completely overhauled all-black cabin, with the most apparent change being the addition of a 7-inch Smartplay studio touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration support. The centre AC vents are now vertically oriented which mingles well with the infotainment unit. It also gets a new single-pod instrument cluster with a circular digital readout and a refreshed 3-spoke steering wheel with audio & telephony controls.

Maruti has also repositioned the power window switches in the new Celerio for cost-cutting purposes. That said, the switches for the front windows are positioned below the infotainment system, whereas for the rear units, they have been weirdly repositioned at the end of the center console tunnel.

Other features on offer include a segment-first passive keyless entry with push-button start/stop, turn-indicator on ORVM, height-adjustable driver's seat, 60:40 rear split seat, electrically adjustable & foldable ORVMs, rear washer & wiper, rear defogger, and tilt adjustment function for the steering wheels. For safety, the AMT variants will get segment-first hill hold assist, over the standard safety features like dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, speed alert system, seat belt reminder, and rear parking sensors.

Bookings for the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio are already underway for a token amount of Rs 11,000. It is available in six colours including two new colours – Solid Fire Red and Speedy Blue along with Arctic White, Silky Silver, Glistening Grey, and Caffeine Brown.
