Pre-Launch Bookings Commenced For Volkswagen Taigun SUV

Volkswagen India has commenced pre-launch bookings for its upcoming Taigun SUV for a token of Rs 25,000. Its production will begin on August 18, ahead of its expected launch in September month. It will be VW's first product under its India 2.0 business plan. 

Based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq, the Volkswagen Taigun will share its powertrain with the former SUV. That said, the Taigun will also be available with two turbocharged petrol engine options: – 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI. While the smaller capacity engine will be available in standard trims, the bigger displacement unit will be exclusive to the GT variants. The 1.5-litre unit also comes with active cylinder technology (ACT) that shuts off two cylinders based on driving inputs to increase fuel efficiency. Here's take a look at their specifications: –

As far as the creature comfort is concerned, the upcoming VW SUV will be equipped with the 10.1-inch infotainment system, connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless mobile charger, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, electric sunroof, ambient lighting, height-adjustable driver's seat, front & rear armrest and much more. Passenger safety is taken care of by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, tyre pressure warning, and rear parking sensors with rearview camera. 

The Taigun will come in five colour options: Curcuma Yellow, Cherry Red, Candy White, Reflex Silver, and Carbon Steel Grey. 

It is likely to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will go up against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Maruti S-Cross, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, Tata Harrier, and the MG Hector. To know more about the VW Taigun, read our first-drive review.
