Norton Manx R India Launch Soon: Everything You Need To Know

TVS-owned Norton Motorcycles has plans to foray into the Indian market later this year, and the first model to arrive on our shores will be the Manx R superbike. Positioned as a high-performance flagship sportsbike, the Manx R features a blend of heritage-inspired design with modern engineering and track-focused performance. It will be imported to India via the CBU route.

Here’s everything you need to know about Norton’s first superbike launch for the Indian market: –

Powertrain Details

  • The Manx R is the Notorn’s first motorcycle, marking its return to the global spotlight under TVS’ ownership.
  • Powering the Norton Manx R will be the 1200cc, 72-degree, V4 petrol engine producing 206HP at 11,500rpm and 130Nm of peak torque at 9,000rpm. Norton claims the 75% torque output is available from just 5,000 rpm.
  • This is an in-house-built engine featuring advanced internals like titanium valves for faster valve movement due to its light weight and a high-compression setup for stronger combustion.
  • While this new V4 engine doesn’t share a single component with the previous V4SV unit, it does share the same bore, stroke and swept capacity as the V4SV. However, all components in the engine were optimised for mass reduction at every stage of the engine’s development, resulting in a low mass of just 73.3 kg.
  • The V-angle helped engineers create a unique firing order with uneven intervals, which improves traction naturally. That said, the bike gets better grip and acceleration even before the traction control system kicks in.
  • It uses two catalysts (one for each cylinder bank), a valve in the silence to manage back pressure, and three oxygen sensors for precise fuel control, making its exhaust system very compact, efficient and well-integrated.

Chassis and Underpinnings

  • The bike uses a lightweight twin-spar frame that consists of five cast members that are welded and CNC-machined as a complete unit to maximise rigidity, strength, balance and handling.
  • For suspension duties, Manx R utilises bespoke, fully-adjustable upside-down forks and rear shock (developed by Marzocchi).
  • Based on the throttle & braking inputs, cornering angles and the under-tyre conditions, these electronically-controlled suspensions instantly adjust compression and rebound damping separately at both front and rear, ensuring the utmost performance at every stage.
  • For anchoring, the bike gets dual 320mm floating discs upfront, with a 245mm disc at the rear.
