Fourth-Gen Hyundai Verna Spied Testing For The First Time

The fourth-generation Hyundai Verna has been spied testing for the very first time in South Korea. Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, we headed to observe a few important things.

Going by the spy images, it seems like the new Verna will follow Hyundai's ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. The test mule has a lower nose section with new headlamps placed on either side of a wider grille. It also has a tapering roofline along with the angular LED taillamps connected via a reflective strip. Overall, the upgraded sedan looks a bit longer than its predecessor.

While the interior of the car is yet to be seen, we believe it will also be completely overhauled and will receive a host of new features like a larger touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver's display, and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The India-spec Hyundai Verna is likely to retain the existing 115PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 115PS 1.5-litre diesel, and the 120PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options. However, Hyundai could offer mild-hybrid technology with brake energy regeneration and automatic start/stop features. Besides, it could also retain its ongoing transmission options, which include a 6-speed manual as standard for both of the 1.5-litre engines, a CVT for 1.5-litre petrol, a 6-speed torque converter for diesel, and a 7-speed DCT automatic for the 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol mill.

2022 Hyundai Verna India launch timeline

The new Verna is expected to be launched in its home country first, followed by other key markets. It is likely to debut in late 2022 in our country. Once launched, it will rekindle its competition with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, and the upcoming Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.
