New Skoda Superb Launched, new Engine is here

The automobile manufacturers have finally reached to the humble realisation of the fact that ‘COVID’ phase is here to stay. The companies are working on resumption of their sales and service operations, slowly but steadily.

Czech Auto giant Skoda took up to the digital platform to launch of the facelift of its premium sedan – Superb. The updated Superb will be available in a couple of variants, the luxury-oriented Laurin & Klement (L&K) and the sportier-looking Sportline trim.

The Sportline trim of the Superb facelift is priced almost at Rs. 29.99 Lakhs, the top-end trim of Laurin & Klement variant is priced at Rs. 32.99 Lakhs.

What do the updates bring to the table?

Design

The updated Superb is expected to get a host of changes expected to the older versions. For starters, on the design front, the facelift version is expected to get a reworked bumper at the front, narrower headlights, an updated fresh-looking grille, and also other design tweaks.

Features

On the feature front, the Superb gets Skoda’s digital instrumentation cluster, the updated Superb also gets the addition of a wireless phone charging option and an updated infotainment system.

The car also carries over tech like power and ventilated seats, 11-speaker Canton audio system, front and rear parking sensors, hands-free parking,  three-zone climate control,  a panoramic sunroof and much more.

Engine

The majority of changes have taken place with respect to the car’s mechanicals. A larger 2.0 TSI Turbo petrol engine is all set to replace the old 1.8L TSI unit. Power and Torque figures are all expected to increase significantly.

The new unit will produce power equivalent to 190 horses and a torque output of 320 Nm. This means a premium of 10 HP power output and 70 Nm torque output over the outgoing model. It comes mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

The facelift, however, does not get a diesel engine option. The Skoda Superb has an ARAI claimed fuel economy of 15.10 kilometres for a litre.
