New Maruti Suzuki Alto To Launch On August 18

India’s favourite entry-level hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Alto, is all set to receive a generation update on August 18, 2022. It has been spied numerous times and we know that it will feature a completely refreshed design, plenty of new features, and new powertrain options. Here’s all that we expect from the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto: –

  • The new-gen Alto is expected to be based on the brand’s modular Heartect platform that also underpins many other Maruti Suzuki models such as S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, etc.
  • It is expected to be bigger than the ongoing model. For reference, the existing Alto measures 3,445mm in length, 1,490mm in width, 1,475mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,360mm.
  • Revealed by the leaked images, the side and rear profiles of the new Alto will be largely inspired by the new Celerio, featuring curvy panels, wraparound taillamps and flap-type door handles. It is unlikely to get alloy wheels.
  • Upfront, it will feature a new honeycomb mesh-pattern grille with refreshed sweptback halogen headlamps and an updated bumper.
  • It will also get a host of new paint options, including the Celerio’s red and blue shades.
  • We expect the upgraded Maruti Alto to receive new features like rear power windows, day/night IRVM, a multi-function steering wheel, and an all-new instrument cluster.
  • Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer the 2022 Alto with two engine options: first, the ongoing 0.8-liter petrol engine (48PS/69Nm) mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, and the other could be the Celerio’s new 1.0-litre DualJet Dual-VVT K10C petrol engine with both manual and an optional AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) unit.
  • It will continue to get a factory-fitted CNG kit option.
  • Considering all the changes, we expect the new Alto to command a significant price premium over the ongoing model which currently ranges from Rs 3.39 – 5.03 lakh (ex-showroom).
