New Maruti Dzire Earns 5-Star Safety Rating In Global NCAP Assessment

Soon after unveiling the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Global NCAP awarded the upcoming compact sedan an impressive 5-star safety rating. With this, it has become the first Maruti Suzuki model to receive a full 5-star rating.

For those unaware, the previous-gen Dzire scored 2 stars for both adult and child occupant protection, with an unstable bodyshell and footwell area. This made the sedan face criticism for poor safety. However, Maruti addresses these concerns as safety awareness grows in India. And this time, the company voluntarily sent the new Dzire for Global NCAP crash testing, showing confidence in safety improvements.

New Maruti Suzuki Dzire Crash Test Report

  • The new Maruti Dzire gets an impressive 5-star safety rating in adult occupant protection (AOP) and a 4-star safety rating for child occupant protection (COP).
  • It scored 31.24 points out of 34 in AOP and 39.20 points out of 42 in COP.
  • The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire gets six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, hill assist, ISOFIX anchors, 3-point seatbelts with reminder for all seats, and front seatbelt pretensioner & load limiter as standard fitment.
  • In AOP, the Dzire showcased good protection for head, neck and knees. However protection offered for the driver’s chest was rated as marginal, and adequate for passenger’s chest. Bodyshell and footwell area rated stable and capable of withstanding further impacts.
  • In the side impact and side pole tests, it offered good protection for most of the critical body parts.
  • In COP, the 3-year-old seat (forward-facing) and 8-month-old seat (rearward-facing) provided full head and chest protection. However, the lack of option to disable front passenger airbag for rearward-facing CRS on front seat, leading to a minor point deduction.

In an official statement, David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, “The new Dzire’s 5-star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result. We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.”
