More Details Emerge About 5-Door Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar 5-door is slated to launch in the second half of 2024. It has been undergoing testing for a while now, and the latest spy images have revealed that the upcoming SUV will get a few extra features over its 3-door version. Here are the details: –

  • Dual-tone interior theme – The 5-door Thar is expected to sport a black-and-brown dual-tone interior colour scheme instead of the existing Thar’s all-black theme.
  • Digital driver’s display: The longer wheelbase version of the Mahindra Thar will get an XUV700-like digital instrumental console.
  • Larger floating infotainment system – The latest testing mule has shown that the higher-spec variants of the 5-door Thar will get a larger central touchscreen infotainment system. We expect it to run on Mahindra’s Adrenox software and will benefit from connected car technology.
  • Dash camera, probably with both front & rear monitoring functions.
  • Front & rear centre armrests and rear AC vents for added comfort and convenience.
  • Single-pane electric sunroof

More Cabin Space

Being an extended version of the current 3-door Thar, the upgraded SUV will also boast a larger wheelbase, providing additional cabin space for passengers and an expanded boot capacity to accommodate more luggage. It is also expected to feature more storage spaces inside the cabin to accommodate your tiny stuff.

Will There Be Any Mechanical Changes?

We don’t expect any mechanical changes underneath the hood. The 5-door will share its powertrain options with the 3-door version, featuring 2-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine options, both available with 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmission. The 3-door Thar also offers a 1.5-litre diesel engine option coupled with a 2WD system. However, it is unlikely to make it in its longer-wheelbase iteration.

Likely To Be Called Thar Armada

Mahindra has recently trademarked seven nameplates for the 5-door Thar, including Thar Armada. For those who aren’t aware, the Mahindra Armada was in production during the late 1990s and early 2000s. It was known for its rugged and utilitarian design, making it suitable for off-road and rural environments.
