Launched in September 2024, the MG Windsor EV has become the fastest electric vehicle in the country to cross the 20,000 unit sales milestone. This mid-size electric crossover achieved the feat in just six months of its launch.
The immense popularity of the Windsor EV can be attributed to its large size, spacious interiors, utmost comfort, feature-loaded cabin, and most importantly, the battery rental scheme. The latter helped in lowering the upfront cost of the EV, making it more affordable for buyers.

For those unaware, the MG Windsor is being offered in three variants: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence, with prices starting from Rs 13,49,800 (ex-showroom). Under the unique Battery as a Service (BaaS) program, it is available at Rs 9.99 lakhs + battery rental at ₹3.5/km. This battery rental program allows customers to purchase the EV at a lower upfront initial cost (as it excludes battery cost) and pay for the battery on a pay-per-usage model, offering flexibility in payments. However, MG has recently shifted from one year of free fast charging to capping it at 1,000 units per Windsor EV. This has left early buyers disappointed.
Built on a ‘Pure EV Platform’, the Windsor EV gets a 38kWh battery pack with a front-axle mounted motor generating 136PS of max power and 200Nm of peak torque. It also gets four driving modes: Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport, claiming a range of up to 332 kilometres on a single charge.

Regarding features, the MG Windsor comes equipped with amenities like fully reclinable front seats. a 135-degree reclining backseat for added leisure, automatic LED projector headlamps, flush door handles, rain-sensing wipers, auto AC, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charger, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 9-speaker Infinity audio system, digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, LED ambient lights with 256 colours, and much more.
For passengers’ safety, it has six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, hill hold & hill descent assist, and a 360-degree camera. Head here for variant-wise feature details.

In the emerging electric vehicle market, the MG Windsor EV falls in the same price range as the Tata Punch EV. However, it can be seen as a viable alternative to the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV400 EV.
