Mercedes-Benz EQG India Launch Soon; Bookings Open

Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the EQG SUV in India later this year and has started accepting bookings. It is essentially the electric version of the G-Class SUV, which was globally revealed in April 2024. Here’s all you need to know about this German electric SUV: –

  • Exterior Design – The electrified G-Wagon retains its iconic boxy shape and circular LED headlamps & DRLs, with EV-specific revisions such as a closed-off black front grille with illumination and a redesigned bumper. It also gets 20-inch alloy wheels on the AMG model and a new tailgate-mounted compartment for storing the charger, replacing the spare wheel found on its ICE version.

  • Interior: – The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQG (G 580) features a sleek black-themed cabin, a multifunction steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, and squared-off AC vent housings.
  • Key Features: – The SUV comes equipped with dual 12.3-inch screens (one for infotainment and the other for the instrument cluster), a voice-activated assistant, and an augmented reality heads-up display (HUD).
  • Safety: – Safety is prioritized with multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, traffic sign recognition, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and driver attention monitoring.

  • Powertrain: – The all-electric G-Class boasts a 116 kWh (usable) battery pack, offering a WLTP-estimated range of up to 473 km. It features four electric motors, one at each wheel, delivering a combined output of 587 PS and 1164 Nm of torque, with a 4WD drivetrain.
  • Driving modes: – It offers multiple driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Individual, as well as two off-road modes: Trail and Rock.
  • Charging:- The EQG supports fast charging up to 200 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in about 32 minutes. Additionally, it can be charged at home using an 11 kW AC charger for overnight top-ups.

  • Expected Price: – The Mercedes-Benz EQG is expected to be priced at around Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom).
  • Competition: It will compete with other luxury electric SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and the Land Rover Defender.
