Maruti Suzuki has received an excellent response for the Jimny, as the off-roader has already garnered over 15,000 bookings in just three weeks from its premiere at the Auto Expo 2023. The SUV will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa outlets. Test drives of the Jimny are yet to begin.

Compared to its global-spec version which is a 3-door offering, the Indian-spec Jimny will come in a 5-door avatar with an extended wheelbase. It will be sold in Zeta and Alpha variants. Powering the off-roader will be the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine rated at 105PS and 134Nm. It will drive all four wheels of the car via its AllGrip Pro 4×4 drivetrain, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

When it comes to creature comforts, the SUV gets features like automatic LED headlamps with daytime running lamps, headlamp washer, alloy wheels, tailgate-mounted spare wheel touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, auto AC, keyless entry with push-button engine start/stop, cruise control, day/night IRVM, up to six airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), hill hold assist, hill descent control, and much more. Maruti is expected to launch Jimny by the first half of 2023, probably in May. Expect its prices to start from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the off-roader will go up against the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
