Maruti Ertiga-Based Toyota Rumion 7-Seater MPV Launched In South Africa

Japanese automaker Toyota has launched the rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 7-seater MPV in the South African market as Toyota Rumion. It is also likely to hit our shores by the next year as the fourth offering under the Toyota-Suzuki partnership after the Glanza, Urban Cruiser, and the upcoming Belta sedan.

The Toyota Rumion looks exactly similar to the Maruti Ertiga except for the redesigned grille and the ‘Toyota’ badging. Inside, it gets an all-black cabin instead of Ertiga's beige theme. The rest of the styling as well as the features list is the same as the Ertiga. Highlights include 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel, analogue instrumentation dials with colored multi-info display, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with reversing camera.

There are no changes on the mechanical front as well. That said, the Rumion also employs Ertiga’s 1.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates 105PS of maximum power and 138Nm of peak torque. It comes paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

In South Africa, the rebadged Ertiga is available in three variants – S, SX, and TX, whereas the Indian-spec Maruti Ertiga comes in four trims – LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. It costs between R245,600 and R317,200, which is nearly around Rs 12.36 lakh to Rs 15.96 lakh when converted to Indian rupees. However, the India-bound Toyota Rumion will cost almost the same as Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Rs 7.96 – 10.69 lakh).
