Maruti e Vitara Achieves 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, the e Vitara, has secured a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP’s latest safety tests. Earlier, the electric SUV had scored a 4-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.

This rating is applicable to all the variants of the Maruti Suzuki eVitara.

  • In the frontal offset test, the eVitara was crash tested at 64 kmph, and it showed “GOOD” protection to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck.
  • Protection for the driver’s and passenger’s chest was rated as “ADEQUATE” and “GOOD”, respectively.
  • The protection to the thighs and pelvis region was labelled as “GOOD” for both driver and co-passenger. However, the driver’s tibia received “ADEQUATE” protection, while it was rated as “GOOD” for the co-passenger.
  • In the side crash test at 50 kmph against a deformable barrier, the e Vitara offered “GOOD” protection to all the body parts of the driver and co-passenger.
  • The side pole test also provided ‘GOOD’ protection across all critical body regions.

  • Maruti Suzuki offers ISOFIX child seat anchorages as standard fitment across the variant lineup of the e Vitara.
  • Both the child seat for the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old dummies were installed facing rearward, which offered a good level of protection.

Depending on the variant, the eVitara comes loaded with safety features like up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, front & rear parking sensors, and a level-2 ADAS suite.

Competition Check

In the mid-size electric SUV segment, the e Vitara faces competition from the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and Vinfast VF6.
