Kia Pulls The Wraps Off The Production-Spec EV9 Flagship SUV

Kia has finally taken the wraps off the production-spec EV9 electric SUV. It was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo in India in a concept avatar.

Here are some key takeaways: –

  • The Kia EV9 is the second model from the brand’s bespoke electric lineup.
  • It is based on the brand’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) architecture. It is the same platform on which the Kia EV6 and Hyundai IONIQ 5 are built. Both EVs are on sale in India.
  • The EV9 follows Kia’s “Opposites United” design language.
  • Flaunting a boxy silhouette and bold chunky styling, its exterior design is broadly similar to its concept model.
  • It features Kia’s signature ‘Tiger Face’ with a body panel instead of the conventional grille, adorned with customisable dynamic light patterns. It has a single air vent positioned lower in the bumper.

  • Among the other key exterior highlights are chunky black body cladding, giant alloy wheels with square-shaped elements, and flush-fitting door handles.

  • The interior of the Kia EV9 electric SUV is kitted with a two-layered dashboard and a massive multi-screen panel for the infotainment and digital driver display.
  • Since its battery pack is placed inside the floor, it offers generous cabin space.
  • Kia has used sustainable materials inside its cabin, such as recycled plastic bottles for seat fabrics, recycled fishnets for flooring, and vegan leather for the dashboard.

  • The electrically operable second-row seats can swivel around to face the rear passenger (only in the 6-seater model)
  • While the Korean carmaker is yet to reveal the specs of the new EV, it is likely to feature a dual-motor setup, providing it with all-wheel drive capabilities.
  • It is expected to offer an electric range of over 500 km.
  • As for its charging, the EV9 will support ultra-rapid charging at 350kW wherein 10-80 per cent of the charge will be completed in 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Kia EV9’s global launch will take place later this year. It could also make its way to the Indian market.
