Is Yamaha Planning To Launch Aerox 155 In India?

Yamaha Motor India seems quite aggressive with its product expansion strategy. After introducing a number of new products and multiple updates for various models in the past several months, Yamaha is now all set to launch the new R15 and Ray-Hybrid scooter in the near future. Not only this, but a recently leaked type-approval document also implies that the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer is also planning to bring the global-spec Aerox 155 scooter to our shores, which will go up against the Aprilia SR 160.

For those who aren't aware, the Yamaha Aerox 155 uses the same liquid-cooled 155cc VVA-equipped single-cylinder engine as the YZF R15 V3.0 and MT-15. However, its Indian-spec model has been detuned to produce 14.95PS at 8,000rpm. That's around 3.65PS less than the aforementioned Yamaha bikes and around 4PS more than the Aprilia SR160. Its torque figure is yet to be revealed, but it is expected to belt out 13.9Nm (@ 6,500rpm) as its Indonesian counterpart.

The Aerox 155 underpins the same platform as the Yamaha NMax 15. It uses a telescopic front fork and twin rear shocks, suspended on 14-inch wheels that further utilize a front disc and a rear drum brake for anchorage.

As for features, overseas the Aerox 155 comes with an LED lighting system, a mobile charging socket in the glove box, a full LCD instrumentation cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, keyless operation, and a large 25-litre underseat storage space. Its fuel tank capacity is 5.5 liters.

Yamaha Aerox 155 – Expected Price

The leaked document reveals that its engine will be manufactured in Yamaha's Indonesia plant. That means the scooter will be brought to the Indian market as a completely knocked-down unit. So, we believe Yamaha Aerox 155 could bear a price tag of around Rs 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom).

Currently, there is not much demand for the performance segment scooters in the Indian market. So, it will be interesting to see how buyers respond to this Yamaha scooter.
