Is Ford Planning To Launch Endeavour Basecamp In India?

After introducing the Everest (Endeavour) Basecamp edition in Australia last year, Ford is now gearing up to launch the same in our country also as the American carmaker has recently trademarked "basecamp" nomenclature in India.

The BaseCamp Edition looks largely similar to the standard variants. However, it gets an off-road accessory package that essentially improves its go-anywhere capabilities to some extent and also increases the rugged appeal of the SUV.

In the global market, it mainly gets the nudge bar and bonnet protector for better safeguard, LED light bar for better visibility, a snorkel for increasing water wadding capacity, a tow bar for towing, pioneer roof rack platform and carry bars to hold extra luggage and a sun-seeking awning for camping purpose.

If launched in India, we might also get the same off-road-oriented accessories. However, there will be no mechanical or interior changes like the recently launched Endeavour Sport Edition.

Currently, the Indian-spec Endeavour is available with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine that churns out 170PS of maximum power and 420Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It can be had either with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or with an all-wheel-drivetrain option. We expect the Basecamp edition to get only the all-wheel-drivetrain (AWD).

Author's Take

Ford hasn't officially revealed anything about the Endeavour Basecamp yet. However, if the company launches the Basecamp Edition in India, we expect it to be offered in limited quantities only. It can prove to be a good option for off-roading amateurs.
