Hyundai Venue To Soon Get A More Powerful Diesel Engine

  • The Venue and i20 share the 1.5-litre FGT diesel engine.
  • Venue’s diesel engine makes 100PS and 240Nm in its present state of tune.
  • Prices are likely to be increased.

Hyundai’s smallest utility vehicle in the country, the Venue, will soon receive a more powerful 115PS/250Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine. The same motor is also present in the Hyundai Creta, Alcazar and Kia Seltos. Venue’s sibling rival, the Kia Sonet has already received this power mill.

The current 1.5-litre diesel engine on the Hyundai Venue makes 100PS of max power and 240Nm of peak torque, and it comes equipped with a Fixed-Geometry Turbocharger (FGT). However, it will now be replaced with a Variable-Geometry Turbocharger (VGT). This is in line with the upcoming Real-Driving Emission (RDE) norms that are due to come into force in April 2023. The petrol variants of Hyundai Venue are unlikely to receive any mechanical changes.

Hyundai also offers the i20 diesel with the FGT engine found in the Venue. However, the oil burner hatch will not make it to the BS6 Phase II era and will be discontinued soon.

Aside from introducing a more powerful diesel unit, the carmaker could also rejig the variant lineup and equipment list of the SUV. However, it is not clear whether the brand will offer an automatic transmission option with the Venue diesel. Currently, it only comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Expect Hyundai to launch the 2023 Venue with this new engine in the coming weeks. It is likely to bear a significant price premium over the ongoing diesel variants of the Venue that retail from Rs 10.15 lakh to Rs 12.51 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will continue to go up against the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300.
