Hero MotoCorp Partnered With Gogoro To Develop Electric Two Wheelers

World's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp has announced a strategic partnership with the Taiwan-based battery-swapping platform provider Gogoro to co-develop electric two-wheelers for the Indian market.

Hero Gogoro joint venture (JV)

As per the official press release, this partnership will stimulate the shift to sustainable electric mobility in India. Both companies will set a joint venture to introduce a large battery swapping industry in our country. That will assist Hero in electric vehicle development and to take electric mobility to the masses. This will also help the Hero MotoCorp to battle it out with the upcoming promising electric player in the Indian market – Ola Electric, which also intends to become one of the largest electric scooter manufacturers in the country.

Currently, Hero MotoCorp is working on the electrified version of its popular scooter, Maestro. And, it could be the first Hero product to come with Gogoro’s battery-swapping feature. This will allow the owners to exchange a discharged battery for a fully charged one at an authorized battery swapping station. This will not only eliminate the long charging period but will also alleviate the range anxiety of the owners.

Commenting on the new partnership, Dr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman, and CEO, Hero MotoCorp, said-

Our strategic partnership with Gogoro is in line with our Vision – ‘Be the Future of Mobility, which we are bringing alive through our Mission to ‘Create, Collaborate & Inspire’. Today marks another major milestone in our journey, as we bring Hero’s leadership in two-wheelers, our Global scale, and innovation powerhouse, with the leadership of Gogoro in the Swapping business model, as they have demonstrated over the years in Taiwan and the rest of the world.
