Foreign Vehicles Will Require These Documents To Ply On Indian Roads

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a new rule to regularize the movement of non-transport vehicles (personal vehicles) registered outside of India when entering or plying within our territory. It is, therefore, necessary for users to carry the following documents in their vehicles during their stay in India: –

(i)         A valid registration certificate (RC).

(ii)        A valid driving license (DL) or international driving permit (IDL), whichever is applicable.

(iii)       A valid insurance policy.

(iv)       A valid pollution under control certificate (if applicable in the origin country).

Also Read:

The driver must have all the required documents in his or her possession at the time of entering India and during their entire stay and these documents must always be available for inspection by the appropriate authorities. Also, these vehicles will not be allowed to transport local passengers and goods within the territory of India.

The notification also states that if there’s any conflict between these rules and a bilateral agreement between India and another country, the latter will prevail.
