First Unit Of The Locally Assembled Volvo XC40 Recharge Rolls Out Of Factory

Volvo’s first electric offering in India, the XC40 Recharge, has finally entered production in India. It owns the title of the first locally assembled luxury electric SUV in the country and the very first unit of the EV has been rolled out by Volvo from its Hoskote facility near Bengaluru. The first batch of 150 units of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, which have already been reserved, will be delivered to their respective buyers by the end of 2022.

Commenting on this occasion, Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Cars India said, “We had in May this year announced that we would commence local assembly of our all-electric offering the XC40 Recharge and today we witnessed the first car rolling off the assembly line at our Hoskote plant near Bengaluru, Karnataka. Historic as this is, today’s event further strengthens our commitment of offering the Indian market a new electric model every year. The rollout is also a step in the right direction towards our goal of becoming an all-electric company by 2030.” 

For those who aren’t aware, the Volvo XC40 Recharge comes with a dual-motor setup producing 408PS of maximum power and 660Nm of peak torque. It draws its charge from a 78kWh battery pack that claims a range of 418km. Using a DC fast charger of up to 150kW, its battery can be juiced up from zero to 80 per cent within 40 minutes.

Volvo XC40 Recharge Interior

Design-wise, the electrified XC40 looks largely similar to its ICE counterpart, save for some EV-specific changes such as a closed-off grille, distinct 19-inch alloy wheels, and Recharge badges. In terms of features, it gets dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a standing 9-inch Android-powered touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a Harman-Kardon 13 speaker 600W audio system, powered front seats (with heating & cooling function), 360-degree surround view system, and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite. Priced at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the Volvo XC40 Recharge goes up against the BMW i4, Kia EV6 and the upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 5.
