Ducati DesertX Discovery Hits Indian Roads – More Rugged, More Capable!

Ducati has rolled out the DesertX Discovery Edition in the Indian market at a price tag of Rs 21,78,200 (ex-showroom). Designed to offer enhanced comfort & features for long-distance adventures, the brand has positioned this touring-focused variant between the standard DesertX and the DesertX Rally in the ADV’s lineup.

Ducati DesertX Discovery – How is it different from its stablemates?

Being a hardcore touring adventure version of the DesertX, the Discovery variant comes packed with the following additional features and accessories for enhanced touring capabilities and durability: –

  • Reinforced handguards for an added layer of protection for the rider’s hands and controls, especially on rough terrains.
  • Engine guard to protect the engine from potential impacts and damage.
  • Aluminium sump guard to shield the engine’s oil sump from rocks, debris and other objects.
  • Heated grips to keep the rider’s hands warm in colder riding conditions.
  • Larger windshield to reduce wind blast on the rider’s face and upper body, thus minimising fatigue on long rides.
  • Centre stand to help in parking the bike on uneven surfaces. It also helps in maintenance tasks, such as chain lubrication and tyre checks.
  • Radiator protector to guard the radiator against damage.
  • Aluminium adventure side cases, with a total capacity of 76 litres.
  • A 5-year subscription of turn-by-turn navigation.

Aside from the above additions, Ducati also offers the bike in a special Thrilling Black/Red livery.

Other Features and Underpinnings

The Ducati DesertX Discovery comes equipped with a suite of advanced electronics to enhance performance, safety, and rider comfort. Key electronic aids include a 5-inch TFT instrument console, smartphone connectivity support, navigation assist, call/SMS alerts, music control, six riding modes (Touring, Sport, Wet, Urbane, Enduro, and Rally), a 3-level cornering ABS, engine braking control, cruise control, wheelie control, traction control, self-cancelling indicators, a steering damper, and more. The bike also features a bi-directional quick-shifter.

Speaking of the underpinnings, the suspension setup comprises 46mm fully adjustable KYB upside-down forks at the front and a KYB monoshock at the rear. Anchoring duties are handled by dual 320mm discs at the front with radial-mount 4-piston Brembo callipers and a 265mm disc at the rear with 2-piston Brembo callipers.

It has a fuel tank capacity of 21 litres and a kerb weight of 210 kg. Its seat height stands at 875mm, which can be increased to 890mm and decreased to 845mm.

Powertrain

At the heart of the Ducati DesetX Discovery is a 937cc, liquid-cooled, L-twin engine that yields a max power of 108hp at 9250 rpm and a peak torque of 92Nm at 6500 rpm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 6-speed unit with a slip-&-assist clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter.
