Cars and Engines affected by the introduction of BS6 norms in India

The government of India took the decision of skipping the BS5 and the automakers, fuel companies, and parts manufacturers were given 3 years to prepare for BS6 emission norms which have been put into effect from April 1, 2020. In order to meet the new regulations, over 80,000 crores have been invested in the production of new vehicles, components, and new engines. This also saw a backward shift of the producers towards petrol engines in order to achieve lower tailpipe emissions. Companies like Volkswagen Group, Renault and Maruti Suzuki have even discontinued almost all of their diesel models. Around 40 diesel cars are reported to be discontinued from the Indian car market. This would also help the companies to focus more on petrol, CNG & electric models which promote the betterment of the environment.
