BMW India has finally launched the much-awaited 8 Series sedan in India. The car was launched via a digital online platform due to the lockdown imposed in the effect of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The car has been launched in 3 variants:-
- BMW 840i Gran Coupe
- BMW 840i Gran Coupe M Sport Edition
- BMW M8 Gran Coupe
All the cars will be available for sale at BMW dealerships and can also be purchased via BMW's online retail platform- BMW Contactless Experience. Customers who purchase any of the given cars above will automatically be added to BMW Excellence Club.
Engine Options with 8 Series in India
The 840i and the 840i M Sport Edition feature the same engine- a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine churning out 335 bhp of max power and peak torque of 500 Nm. While the M8 is powered by a monstrous 4.4 litre V8 petrol engine throwing out 591 bhp of max power and 750 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to an 8 speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The 840i and the 840i M Sport Edition can reach 0-100 in about 5.2 seconds whereas the M8 beast takes just 3.3 seconds to complete the same task.

FEATURES
All the three cars get a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay, dynamic cruise control system, 14 way electrically powered front seats, four-zone climate control system, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with iDrive interface recognizing gestures etc. As for safety features, they get six airbags, dynamic stability control, traction control system, Tyre Pressure Indicator, ISOFIX Child Mounting, parking assistant, surround-view cameras, cornering brake control, attentive assistance. The M8 Gran Coupe gets 19-inch light-alloy wheels both front and rear whereas the others get 18-inch light-alloy wheels. The top speed on all the variants has been limited to 250 kmph for safety reasons. All the variants get BMW Laserlight as for headlamps and a 68-litre capacity fuel tank.
EXTERIOR DESIGN
The cars get BMW signature kidney-grilles at the front giving them an aggressive stance, large air vents, wrap-around LED tail lamps, stylish bumpers, sleek LED headlamps, flared wheel arches and a sporty performance exhaust system. The 840i M Sport Edition also enjoys BMW Laserlights, larger air vents, rear apron with diffuser and special side skirts and a different design of alloy wheels. The M8 Coupe receives the traditional M series specific elements like hexagonal kidney grille with double slats, BMW Laserlights, better air intakes, carbon fibre roof, M rear diffuser, double-flow exhaust system, M spoiler, Automatically operated tailgate, rain sensor and automatic driving lights control etc. The 840i and 840i M Sport Edition get 440 litres of boot space while the M8 stands at 420 litres.

PRICE AND COLOR OPTIONS
The 840i Gran Coupe starts at Rs. 1,29,90,000 roughly about 1.3 crores while the 840i stands with 25 lakhs more at Rs. 1,55,00,000 i.e. 1.55 crores. The M8 comes with a premium however justifiable price tag of Rs. 2,15,00,000 i.e. 2.15 crores. All the cars come with 12 color options some of which are:-
