Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Will Now Be Highly Localised

Bajaj Auto has announced that they have increased the level of indigenization and localization for the Chetak electric scooter. Now, it will be largely made in our country except for the battery, which will include imported cells.

With the high localization, the asking price for the Bajaj Chetak e-scooter is expected to be reduced by a significant margin. Currently, the e-scooter costs Rs 1,47,775 in Delhi (ex-showroom, including FAME II subsidy), making it one of the most expensive electric scooters in the country. Its launch date is yet to be revealed by the automaker.

Despite the increased level of localization, the Chetak isn’t expected to get any feature or cosmetic updates. It will continue to be powered by a 4.08kWh BLDC motor, churning out 16Nm of peak torque. Currently, it comes with a 3kWH IP67-rated lithium-ion battery pack that offers a real-world range of over 95km in Eco mode and over 85km in the Sport mode. The brand offers a 3-year/50,000km standard warranty with the battery, and its life is claimed to last around 70,000km.

In other news, Bajaj has also established a new manufacturing facility in Akurdi, Pune for the Chetak and its upcoming EVs. This newly built manufacturing plant is capable of producing 800 units per day and around 2.5 lakh units per year.
