Aprilia Clarifies RS 457 Engine Issues; Troubles Linked to Mods and Poor Maintenance

In recent weeks, several owners of the Aprilia RS 457 took to social media to report issues related to power loss and engine performance. Responding to the growing chatter, Aprilia India has released an official statement, following a comprehensive inspection of the motorcycles involved.

The company clarified that the root cause behind the majority of reported problems lies in the use of unauthorised aftermarket modifications and failure to follow recommended service schedules. According to Aprilia, these practices can severely impact the bike’s performance and reliability, potentially voiding the warranty as well.

In an official statement, Aprilia India said: “We have meticulously investigated every instance brought to our attention. Most of the reported issues were due to unauthorised aftermarket modifications and not adhering to recommended service intervals. For the few genuine cases, we promptly resolved them, ensuring minimal disruption to our customers.”

The brand also urged customers to opt for only authorised performance components, which are available through its official dealer network. These parts, Aprilia noted, are developed and tested to meet the company’s global quality benchmarks, ensuring not just performance, but also long-term durability and safety.

Launched in India last year, the RS 457 has quickly established itself as a strong contender in the sub-500cc sportbike segment, appreciated for its blend of Italian styling, balanced dynamics, and premium hardware. Its recently introduced street-naked sibling, the Tuono 457, further expands the platform’s appeal.

With this clarification, Aprilia India aims to reassure its customer base, highlighting its commitment to after-sales support and product integrity. The company also reinforced the importance of proper maintenance practices and the use of certified accessories to preserve the bike’s performance and reliability.
