2026 Mahindra Thar OG Launched With Fresh Looks and New Features

Soon after updating the BE6 electric SUV, Mahindra has now given the Thar 3-door its second update in just over a year, bringing a new “OG” suffix to its name, stronger performance, refreshed appearance and new features, along with a new platform, revised suspension & steering setup.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG – Exterior Design

The new Thar OG retains its iconic design, while adding new elements for a refreshed appearance. That said, it gets a restyled radiator grille with ‘Thar’ branding on the right side. It also gets new LED headlamps with signature C-shaped LED DRLs borrowed from the Thar Roxx.

The fog lamps have also been repositioned from the bumper to the fender and now feature LED technology, along with a built-in cornering function.

The front & rear bumpers have also been redesigned for a refreshed look. Additionally, there are the new 19-inch alloy wheels, revised LED tail lamps and ‘OG’ branding on the tailgate.

Mahindra has also introduced two new colour options for the updated Thar, namely Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG – Interior and Features

Step inside and you’ll notice that the cabin experience has been enhanced with new Truffle Brown leatherette seat upholstery, providing it a premium feel. However, the dashboard layout remains unchanged. But there are a couple of meaningful upgrades over its predecessor, such as improved NVH, an armrest for the second row with integrated cupholders, front parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, dedicated terrain modes (Mud, Sand and Snow), and up to 6 airbags on select variants. In fact, it has been equipped with a segment-first “4 Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS)” airbag system, which is designed to protect the head, pelvis, thorax and shoulder region of both front and rear occupants in case of a side impact.

New Platform, Steering and Suspension Setup

The new Mahindra Thar OG is based on the brand’s “M_Glyde 4G” platform, which underpins the larger Thar Roxx. Compared to the previous platform of the SUV, this new architecture offers more structural stiffness than before. Moreover, it now features a Pentalink rear suspension with a Watts Link borrowed from the Thar Roxx, which is claimed to control lateral movement of the rear axle better. It also gets Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) technology (DAVINCI dampers) for a plush ride quality.

Furthermore, to enhance the SUV’s off-road capabilities, the Thar OG now comes with Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), which can lock the rear axle electronically to ensure the power is sent to the wheel with maximum traction (grip).

Another major change comes in the form of a much-demanded electric power steering (EPS) setup, replacing the earlier hydraulic power steering. As a result, low-speed manoeuvring and parking should be easier than before.

Improved Performance

Like before, the Thar continues to be offered with three engine options; however, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mill now produces 162hp and 330Nm, a boost of 10hp and up to 30Nm over the previous model. On the other hand, the 2.2-litre oil burner is now tuned to yield 152hp and 330Nm. That’s an increase of 18hp and 30Nm. However, the entry-level 1.5-litre diesel engine has been retained unchanged.
