New-gen Toyota Hilux Launched In India At Rs 31.99 Lakh

After tons of spy shots and teasers, the ninth-gen Toyota Hilux has finally been launched in India with prices starting from Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This double-cab body style lifestyle pickup truck first made its India debut in 2022. It is being assembled in India with CKD kits at Toyota’s plant in Karnataka.

New Toyota Hilux 2026: Exterior Design

  • The new-generation Hilux brings heavily revised exterior and interior design to the pickup truck.
  • Starting with the front, the new model features an entirely new fascia, featuring a rectangular grille in body colour finish with a honeycomb pattern.
  • It also gets sleeker swept-back LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, connected by a thick glossy black strip featuring the ‘TOYOTA’ lettering embossed in the centre.
  • The off-roader also features a bold sculpted bumper with a slightly protruding silver-finished skid plate that adds to its rugged appearance.
  • Fog lamps can also be seen placed on either side of the skid plate.

  • When viewed from the sides, it looks similar to the predecessor, featuring new alloy wheels, along with slightly revised beefy black cladding over the squared-off wheel arches.
  • At the rear, the Hilux features newly designed C-shaped LED tail lamps and a rugged-looking black bumper featuring an integrated step for easy access to the cargo bed.
  • The tailgate also carries a large ‘TOYOTA’ moniker.

Interior and Features

  • The 2026 Toyota Hilux features a fully reworked interior, featuring a modern-looking layered dashboard layout, a new 3-spoke steering wheel with TOYOTA lettering and dual 12.3-inch displays.
  • The all-black dashboard contrasts well with the leather wrapping and brushed silver and gloss black trims.
  • Toyota has also offered physical buttons to control most of the features.
  • In terms of equipment, the top-spec Hilux comes loaded with amenities such as powered front seats with ventilation functions, a 360-degree camera with parking support, and an ADAS suite.
  • Features like leather upholstery, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, 7 airbags, front & rear parking sensors, an electrochromic IRVM, tyre angle monitor, active traction control and automated limited-slip differential have been retained from the outgoing model.

Platform, Dimensions and Off-Road Credentials

Based on the same IMV ladder-frame chassis as the previous model, the new Hilux is 5,320mm in length, 1,855mm in width, 1,815mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,085mm.

For improved off-road ability, the Hilux also gets a low-range gearbox, front & rear electronic differential locks, multi-terrain modes, traction control and downhill assist control.

Engine Details

  • Underneath the hood, the new Hilux retains the 2.8-litre diesel (204hp/500Nm) engine, offered with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
  • It does not get a manual gearbox this time.
  • However, unlike before, the new Hilux is available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations.

Globally, the Hilux is also available in an electric avatar, which comes with a 59.2kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor setup. However, Toyota hasn’t confirmed whether it would bring the Hilux EV to India as well.

Competition Check

The only rival of the Toyota Hilux in India is the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Soon, Mahindra will also foray into this niche segment with the Scorpio N-based lifestyle pickup truck.
