Honda has officially confirmed the arrival of a new sub-4m SUV for the Indian market at its latest global financial results briefing. Expect to launch by 2028; this will mark the brand’s return to the compact SUV segment since the discontinuation of the WR-V in 2023.
While Honda has yet to share any details about the upcoming product, it is expected to be developed with the Indian market and buyers’ preferences in mind, with a strong emphasis on practicality, mileage and competitive pricing.
Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President and Representative Executive Officer at Honda, said, ”We will develop specifications that fully match the market conditions and customer needs in India.”

The development is significant for the Japanese carmaker, as it has only three offerings in the country, two of which are sedans (Amaze & City), a segment witnessing declining demand. On the other hand, the compact SUV category continues to see strong demand in the Indian market, driven by models like Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue.
Given the evolving market trends, the upcoming Honda SUV could feature electrified powertrain options. More details are expected to surface closer to its debut.

In other news, Honda is gearing up to launch the facelifted City sedan on May 22. The recently spied test mule suggests some meaningful design changes, especially at the front end. Additionally, the Japanese brand is also likely to bring the ZR-V hybrid SUV to our shores via the CBU route on the same day.
