Kia Syros EV Spied Testing; Launch Expected Soon

The all-electric version of the Kia Syros has been spotted testing on Indian roads, suggesting its launch is just a few months away. It is expected to be based on the Hyundai Inster’s K1 platform. Once launched, it will be Kia’s most affordable electric offering in the country, which will be positioned below the Carens Clavis EV.

Kia Syros EV – What Do Spy Images Reveal?

Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, its silhouette looked identical to its ICE-version. In fact, it is likely to boast a similar design, albeit with a few EV-specific design changes in the form of restyled bumpers at both ends and a charging flap on the left front quarter panel.

The test mule also reveals that it retains amenities like front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and a radar on the front bumper for the level-2 ADAS suite. However, the green finish on the brake callipers is new to the electric guise.

Interior and Features

While we are yet to see its interior, it is also likely to be identical to the ICE-powered Syros. However, the centre console tunnel could be a floating unit, similar to the Carens Clavis EV. It is expected to come with EV-specific features such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2L) charging. Besides, features such as a 12.3-inch infotainment, a touch-based AC control panel, a digital cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front & rear seats, slide & recline function for rear seats, six airbags, hill assist, tyre pressure monitoring system are likely to be retained from the ICE trim.

Expected Powertrain

Kia is yet to share the powertrain details of the Syros EV, but we expect it to be offered with two battery options, paired with a front-wheel-drive motor. It is likely to borrow its battery packs from the Hyundai Inster sold in global markets, which is available with 42 kWh and 49 kWh units, claiming a range of 326km and 368km, respectively.
