Maruti Ciaz Discontinued In India; New Body Style Incoming?

Following widespread chatter, Maruti Suzuki has officially discontinued the Ciaz in India. Launched in 2014, the Honda City-rivaling Maruti Ciaz was an instant hit in the market. However, due to changing buyer preferences and a shift towards high-rising models & SUVs, the demand for the Ciaz started slowing down, which led the brand to pull the plug on it. For reference, it sold just 1,097 units in February 2025 and 768 units in January 2025.

Comeback in New Form?

While acknowledging the discontinuation of the Ciaz sedan in India, a company spokesperson stated that the Ciaz brand remains part of their portfolio, but product forms may evolve over time based on market demand, customer preferences, and regulatory shifts. This hints that Maruti might bring back the Ciaz in a different body style- perhaps as a compact SUV or a crossover.

Discounts Being Offered

As reported earlier, Maruti Suzuki is offering attractive benefits on its Nexa offerings this month, including on the Ciaz. The sedan is available with a cash discount of up to Rs 10,000 and a scrappage bonus of Rs 30,000. However, depending on inventory levels, some dealers may extend even higher offers to speed up clearance.

An Overview of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was launched in October 2014 at Rs 6.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) to take on the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento. It was known for its timeless design, spacious cabin, good fuel efficiency and value-for-money quotient.

Over the years, the Ciaz received multiple updates to remain competitive in the market. Initially, it was launched with a 91PS 1.4-litre petrol and a Fiat-sourced 89PS 1.3-litre diesel engine. However, during the BS6 transition phase, it received the 1.5-litre K15 petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech, replacing the previous engine options.

Before being axed, the Maruti Ciaz was priced between Rs 9.42 lakh and Rs 12.31 lakh (ex-showroom).
