Royal Enfield 650cc Lineup: A Comprehensive Comparison

Royal Enfield has expanded its 650cc bikes range with the launch of the Classic 650, the newest member of the RE family. With this, six models are available in the 650cc range – the Classic 650, Bear 650, Shotgun 650, Super Meteor 650, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. In this thread, we’ve analysed how the new Classic 650 compares to its siblings in terms of performance, design, and features.

Engine and Performance

Shotgun 650Parallel-twin, 4-stroke, SOHC, air/oil cooled648cc47 PS @ 7250 rpm52.3 Nm @ 5650 rpm6-speed
Super Meteor 650Parallel-twin, 4-stroke, SOHC, air/oil cooled648cc47 PS @ 7250 rpm52.3 Nm @ 5650 rpm6-speed
Interceptor 650Inline twin cylinder, 4 stroke, SOHC648cc47.5 PS @ 7250 rpm52.3 Nm @ 5150 rpm6-speed
Continental GT 650Inline twin cylinder, 4 stroke, SOHC648cc47.5 PS @ 7250 rpm52.3 Nm @ 5150 rpm6-speed

Like its stablemates, the Classic 650 is powered by a 648cc, inline twin-cylinder, 4-stroke, SOHC engine, but here’s how the models differ: –

  • The new Classic 650 delivers 47 PS at 7,250 rpm and 52.3 Nm at 5,650 rpm that should offer a balanced mix of performance and smooth cruising.
  • The Bear 650 is the most powerful, with 47.5 PS at 7,150 rpm and 56.5 Nm at 5,150 rpm, giving it the highest torque output for punchier acceleration.
  • The Shotgun 650, Super Meteor 650, Continental GT 650, and Interceptor 650 match the Classic 650 in power output, with minor tuning differences.
  • While all these bikes share the same engine block, the Bear 650 has the strongest low-end pull, which should make it the quickest off the line, whereas the Classic 650 focuses on delivering a relaxed riding experience.

  • As clear by their body types, each model is built for a different purpose.
  • The new Classic 650 uses a steel tubular spine frame, similar to the Shotgun 650 and Super Meteor 650 for a stable and comfortable ride. On the other hand, Bear 650, Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 feature a steel tubular double cradle frame, providing better rigidity for spirited riding.
  • In terms of ground clearance, the Bear 650 (184mm) is the best for rough roads, while the Super Meteor 650 (135mm) has the lowest, making it ideal for relaxed highway cruising. At 154mm, the Classic 650 stikes a good balance.
  • Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 get Showa USD forks, adding premium suspension feel.
