Hyundai India has added two new variants to the Exter’s lineup: S+ (AMT) and S(O)+ (manual), priced at Rs Rs 7.86 lakh and Rs 8.44 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. The “+” in both variants refers to the addition of a sunroof as a feature for the micro-SUV, with a price increase of ₹28,000 for the manual transmission (MT) and ₹31,000 for the automatic (AMT) compared to their non-sunroof versions.
Variant Positioning and Powertrain Option
The new Hyundai Exter S(O)+ variant is positioned between the mid-spec S(O) and SX trims and comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine (83PS and 114Nm), paired only with a 5-speed manual transmission. Similarly, the Exter S+ variant sits between the mid-spec S and SX trims and features the 1.2-litre petrol engine but is equipped with a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission). No CNG option is offered with any of these variants.

Features
As mentioned above, the only new addition to these variants compared to their base trims is a single-pane electric sunroof. Besides, they retain all features from their donor variants, like an 8-inch touchscreen, a semi-digital driver’s display, manual AC with rear vents, cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and all power windows. The S Plus variant also adds electrically foldable ORVMs, which the S (O) Plus lacks.
For safety, both variants come equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill-start assist.
Competition Check
The Hyundai Exter faces competition from the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, and select variants of Maruti Fronx.
