Skoda Auto India has confirmed that its upcoming Tata Nexon-rivaling compact SUV will be called “Kylaq” (pronounced Kai-Lak). The name is inspired by the Sanskrit word for crystal. The SUV will make its debut in early 2025.
For those unaware, Skoda launched a campaign called “Name Your Skoda”, inviting people to submit names for their upcoming sub-compact SUV. The only requirement was that the name had to start with the letter “K” and end with “Q”. The carmaker stated that it had received over 2 lakh names, with over 24,000 unique names. The most popular name among the 10 finalists will secure the top spot, with the grand prize winner receiving the first vehicle off the production line in 2025. Ten other participants will win an exclusive trip to Prague, including a tour of the Škoda Museum and the city. The winners will be announced today at 2 PM across Škoda Auto India’s social media channels.

Skoda Kylaq – What To Expect?
The all-new Skoda Kylaq will be the brand’s first model to feature the brand’s latest Modern Solid Design language in India. The SUV will underpin the the Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia.
Skoda reveals that its new compact SUV will maintain the brand’s signature SUV design language while introducing refined elements like precise DRL light signatures. The upcoming model will also feature a hexagon pattern on its sides and rear. Currently undergoing rigorous testing across India, the SUV is being prepped for production with local suppliers ramping up. Built on a larger car platform, it will offer a ‘big car’ feel within a compact footprint.
We expect it to be powered by the brand’s 1-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 115PS of max power and 178Nm of peak torque. It is likely to be offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox choices.

Expect Skoda to price the new Kylaq SUV from around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it against the Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
