Tata Nexon EV Gets 5 Star Safety Rating From Bharat NCAP

The Tata Nexon EV has received a full 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection in the latest rounds of Bharat NCAP crash tests. It was crash-tested alongside the Punch EV, which also secured a 5-star rating.

Bharat NCAP crash-tested the range-topping Empowered Plus Long Range (LR) variant of the Nexon. However, it stated that the results apply to all variants.

Tata Nexon EV – Crash Test Report

  • The Tata Nexon EV received a five-star rating, although it achieved one of the lowest scores for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) among Tata vehicles tested by Bharat NCAP.
  • In the frontal impact test at 64kmph, the Nexon EV scored 14.26 out of 16 points for adult occupants in the front seats.
  • It provided ‘good’ protection for the head and neck of both driver and passenger, but ‘adequate’ protection for the driver’s chest and ‘good’ protection for the passenger’s chest.
  • ‘Good’ protection was offered to the thighs and pelvic region of both occupants, with ‘adequate’ protection for their tibias.

  • In the side impact test with a deformable barrier at 50kmph, the Nexon EV provided ‘good’ protection to the driver’s head, chest, abdomen, and hip, with ‘adequate’ protection for the chest.
  • Similar results were observed in the side pole test, where the chest area also received ‘good’ protection.
  • The Nexon EV achieved a five-star rating in Child Occupant Protection (COP) tests. Rearward-facing child seats were used during testing. It scored 11.95 out of 12 points for protection offered to an 18-month-old child and a perfect score of 12 points for a 3-year-old child.

Offered in two battery sizes: 30 kWh and 40.5 kWh, the Tata Nexon EV is priced between Rs 14.49 lakh and Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It competes directly with the Mahindra XUV400 and provides a more affordable alternative to vehicles such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.
