Volvo XC40 Recharge Gets New Two-Wheel-Drive ‘Plus’ Variant

The Volvo XC40 Recharge receives a new entry-level variant called “PLUS”, with a two-wheel drive system (2WD). Until now, it has only been offered with a dual-motor AWD setup.

The new single-motor Plus variant is Rs 2.95 lakh more affordable than the dual-motor Ultimate variant. Not only does it differ in the drivetrain option, but it also features a smaller 69kWh battery pack compared to the Ultimate variant’s 78kWh unit. Being an entry-level variant, the new single-motor Plus variant skips some features compared to the dual-motor Ultimate trim. These include Pixel LED headlamps, fog lamps, Harman Kardon sound system, and a 360-degree camera. However, features like 19-inch alloys, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, digital driver’s display, 9-inch infotainment, powered front seats, wireless charger, and park assist have been retained.

For safety, the Plus variant gets 7 airbags, front & rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a rear parking camera and a full suite of ADAS technology, which further includes lane keep assist, dynamic cruise control, cross traffic alert, rear collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring system.

Competition Check

In the premium EV segment, the Volvo XC40 Recharge faces competition from the Kia EV6, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the recently launched BYD Seal electric sedan.
