BYD Seal Electric Sedan To Launch On This Date In India

Chinese automaker BYD is gearing up to expand its Indian portfolio with the introduction of the Seal electric sedan on March 5, 2024. Currently, BYD has the E5 MPV and Atto 3 SUV in its India lineup. The carmaker showcased the Seal EV last year at the 2023 Auto Expo.

What Powers The BYD Seal?

The Seal is equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery technology, known for its high energy density, enhanced safety features, and long lifespan. Powering this Tesla 3-rivalling electric sedan is either a 61.44 kWh or 82.56 kWh battery pack that can be had in both rear-wheel drive (single motor) and all-wheel drive (dual-motor) configurations, delivering a maximum output of up to 313PS/360Nm and 530PS/670Nm, respectively.

The range-topping AWD model can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 3.8 seconds. Depending on the variant, it can offer a range of up to 700 kilometres.

The powertrain specifications of the Indian-spec BYD Seal are yet to be disclosed.

Platform

Based on the e-platform 3.0, the Seal is the only BYD offering that features Cell-To-Body (CTB) technology that makes the battery pack a structural part of the car’s body frame, thus reducing the overall weight of the car by a significant margin. The platform further contributes to a shorter overhang and a longer wheelbase, significantly expanding the cabin space and enhancing the vehicle’s aerodynamic design.

BYD Seal interior

Interior and Design

Inside, the Seal sports a minimalistic design with plenty of swoops and curves. Regarding features, it comes loaded with a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and radar-based ADAS active safety features like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, emergency auto braking and more.

Expected Price

Since it will be a fully imported model, we believe BYD will price the Seal between Rs 40 to 60 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, placing it against the Kia EV6 and Hyundai IONIQ 5.
