Tata Tiago, Tigor CNG To Get Automatic Transmission Option

Tata Motors has teased the CNG versions of Tiago and Tigor, hinting that they will soon be equipped with an automatic transmission option. With this development, they are poised to become the first CNG cars to offer the convenience of a two-pedal system.

While Tata is yet to confirm the type of automatic transmission the Tiago and Tigor CNG variants will get, it is expected to be a 5-speed AMT unit as their regular non-CNG counterparts.

What Powers The Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG?

Powering the Tata Tiago and Tigor is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine equipped with twin-cylinder technology that makes 86PS and 113Nm in petrol mode and 73.5PS and 95Nm when fed with CNG. Currently, the CNG variants of both these offerings only come with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

No Feature Changes Expected

2022 Tata Tiago Interior

We donโ€™t anticipate any feature changes in the upcoming Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG Automatic variants. They are expected to retain the existing set of comfort and safety features, comprising a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, steering-mounted audio & telephony controls, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, height adjustable driverโ€™s seat, rear defogger, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, and more.

Expected Price and Rivals

At present, the prices for the Tiago CNG start from Rs 6.55 lakh, while the Tigor CNG retails from Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom). We believe the AMT models could carry a premium of nearly Rs 55,000 over their corresponding manual variants.

Regarding the market competition, the Tiago CNG contests against the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG, Maruti Celerio CNG and WagnonR CNG, while the Tigor CNG locks horns with the Maruti Dzire CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG.
